
A recent survey conducted by J Turner Research and distributed to over 13,000 residents at 71 apartment communities nationwide asked renters about the most important features that they look for when shopping for a new home. The data in this study offers valuable insight into the preferences of each generation of apartment renter. The survey covered residents from the “Silent Generation” to the millennial generation and measured the preferences, perspectives and values related to the apartment search and rental life. Information gained from this study enables operators of apartment communities to target their marketing to generational subsets and developers of apartment communities by knowing what their prospects are seeking.
The five most important amenity, feature and service preferences are:

- Outdoor Pool (54%)
- Additional Storage (37%)
- Central Wi-Fi (36%)
