The Color to Watch this Year: Tangerine Tango

Color of the year, Tangerine Tango

Out with the old and in with the new! A new year has started, and with it comes new resolutions, new goals, new ideas, and, of course… Pantone’s new Color of the Year. This year, Pantone has selected an energetic reddish orange tone, affectionately nicknamed Tangerine Tango.

Tangerine Tango, formally known as PANTONE 17-1463, is a vibrant, high energy color that has popularity in cosmetics, as well as in the Spring collections of fashion icons such as Tommy Hilfiger, Nanette Lepore and Elie Tahari.

Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Color Institute says of the 2012 pick:

“Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it. Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”

In picking the annual Color of the Year, Pantone experts research color trends across multiple industries, including fashion, film, technology, art and design.

Tangerine Tango has the impact and strength of vivid red, without the aggression. It can be used to energize interior spaces, as accent walls, or as powerful bursts of color in accessories. As a printed color or on the web, it has the attention-demanding visibility needed to draw in and captivate an audience.
